Report: Liverpool remain keen on 'exceptional' 18-cap star
Liverpool could still sign Brighton midfielder, Yves Bissouma, during the summer transfer window, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Bissouma has been on Jurgen Klopp’s radar for some time now. Despite reports back in May that suggested a move for the Brighton man was unlikely, the Echo has claimed the Mali international is still being monitored.
Brighton have managed to avoid a full fire-sale as yet. However, they look set to lose Ben White, with Arsenal, Man City, and now Everton all lurking for the England man.
Lewis Dunk is another who is continually linked with moves, while Tariq Lamptey also caught the eye last season as well.
Bissouma completes a number of players in the Seagulls squad expected to eventually move on.
Arsenal have also been heavily-linked with Bissouma since the end of the season. The Gunners were quoted around £40m for the midfielder at the time.
Strength in depth
There has been talk from Liverpool that the club won’t move to replace Gini Wijnaldum. But given the injuries in defence last season, that would seem an odd move.
It only takes knocks to players like Jones or Henderson, and suddenly the Reds look light in midfield. A signing like Bissouma, then, makes sense.
Of course, he will cost a pretty penny. Brighton value him massively. But in the current market, the best players cost the big money.
At 24, Bissouma fits the mold of what Liverpool have been all about in recent years. He’s also reliable, having played 36 of 38 PL games last term for the Seagulls.
Gary Lineker also likes him. The BBC presenter previously labelling Bissouma as ‘excpetional‘. A big endorsement indeed.
