Report: Liverpool prepared to pay £43m for 'spectacular' talent who's like a young Thiago
Liverpool are reportedly willing to trigger Gavi’s €50m (£43m) release clause and bring him to Anfield.
This is according to Sport – via Sport Witness – who claims the Reds are a ‘big threat’ to Gavi’s stay at Barcelona.
Liverpool have an incredible squad, but there’s certainly scope for Jurgen Klopp to bolster his ranks.
With Jordan Henderson and James Milner in their thirties, the Reds boss may well be looking at successors.
And when the opportunity to sign a player like Gavi arises, no matter how slim, you must take action.
Gavi is one of the most talented youngsters in world football, a Barca regular at just 17 years of age.
He has already made 46 competitive club appearances and has won six caps for Spain.
Barca coach Xavi has previously described Gavi as “spectacular”.
Fans on social media have compared him to the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara.
Liverpool keeping tabs on Gavi contract stalemate
Gavi has one year left on his contract at Camp Nou, and negotiations to extend seem to be dragging out.
Liverpool are apparently monitoring proceedings carefully and, according to Sport, are willing to swoop.
The Reds could also be willing to prepare a contract with economic conditions ‘very superior’ to those of Barca.
However, that’s not to say Liverpool are anywhere near close to signing Gavi.
Barcelona are apparently counting on the player’s wish of staying at the club to find an agreement with him.
Gavi reportedly wants to continue ‘fulfilling his dream’ at the La Liga giants.
He expects his agent to soon get to a deal with the club, added the report.
Sport makes it clear Gavi doesn’t want to go ‘for money’, as he’s ‘happy’ at the club.
Worryingly for Liverpool, the option of going to England ‘doesn’t go through his head’.
So perhaps the Reds’ chances of landing Gavi may be slim to none, but still, you can’t blame them for trying.
