Report: Liverpool prepare fourth summer signing with Barca star set to leave
Liverpool are on the verge of wrapping up a deal for Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, as per the Daily Star. Reports suggest that the Spanish right-sided defender would be available to the Merseyside outfit for as little as £7 million.
Montoya has endured a difficult season under treble winning Luis Enrique, amassing just eight games and 590 minutes worth of La Liga action. He had been struggling enough to compete with Dani Alves for first-team football – a challenge that has further intensified following Barcelona’s signing of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla this week.
The Reds view the Spanish international as the ideal replacement for Glen Johnson, who has been released following the expiration of his contract at Anfield, and could conclude a deal in the coming weeks. After a disappointing Premier league campaign, Brendan Rodgers is understandably eager to strengthen his side – adding a player of the 24-year-old’s quality would see him do just that.
