Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group want to tie Jurgen Klopp down to a longer contract, The Telegraph reports. FSG believe Klopp can continue to lead Liverpool to glory after winning the Champions League title on Saturday.
Klopp has overseen a dramatic turnaround at Liverpool and was unfortunate not to deliver the Premier League title. With 97 points and just one loss, it was remarkable that the Reds finished second.
Nonetheless, Liverpool shook off the disappointment in the league and marched to Champions League glory. After completing a stunning comeback against Barcelona in the semi-finals, they did enough to see off Tottenham in Madrid with a 2-0 win.
This was Klopp’s first trophy as Liverpool manager. But FSG feel he can deliver more success for the club. This is why they want the German to sign fresh terms with Liverpool.

Klopp’s current deal expires in 2022, which would take him to seven years in charge. And his last two spells at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund have both lasted seven years.
However, Liverpool’s owners want to ensure Klopp remains beyond summer 2022. With big clubs like Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid sniffing around for him in the past, Liverpool need to tie Klopp down.
After the Champions League final victory, Liverpool’s owners have now decided to thrash out contract talks to extend Klopp’s deal.
