French outlet Le10Sport claim that Liverpool have opened talks to sign Lille speed machine Victor Osimhen but could face competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and even Newcastle United.
Osimhen, 21, has been in stunning form for Lille this season having scored a whopping 18 goals in his first season for the French club. That is despite playing out wide and up front, with a contract for the Nigeria international lasting until 2024.
The report claims Liverpool have opened talks with the player’s agents over a summer move, as Jurgen Klopp looks to freshen up his options in the final third. It is believed Lille want as much as £70million.
However, Newcastle are suggested as a possible option for Osimhen given their reportedly potential takeover. Manchester United and Chelsea are also believed to be interested in the Nigeria international.
TBR’s view – Should Liverpool sign Osimhen?
Osimhen would be a stunning signing for Liverpool, given his age and goal rate. As first-back-up under Jurgen Klopp, Osimhen would provide cover for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah – and could play up front as a plan B.
However, Liverpool would have to nearly smash their club-record transfer fee, paid for Virgil van Dijk. Arsenal signed Nicolas Pepe for a similar fee from Lille – and he has struggled after similar stats with the French club last season.
Liverpool must be cautious, but Osimhen is showing all the potential required to shine at the top level.
