Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Liverpool are in talks to sign Napoli giant Kalidou Koulibaly – but they could face plenty of Premier League competition from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Koulibaly, 28, is considered one of Europe’s best defenders as he continues to shine for Gennaro Gattuso’s side. Such has been his influence in the side, Koulibaly has played a pivotal figure in keeping his side unbeaten in the Champions League this term.
The latest report claims Liverpool are keen, but recent reports claim they will not be alone. French outlet Le10Sport claim Newcastle have offered Koulibaly a whopping £200,000 a week. Tottenham are also said to be interested.
Indeed, Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio told Sky Sports this week that Daniel Levy is close to Koulibaly’s agents and that the Senegalese ace could be an important target for Spurs this summer. It is believed he is worth £70million (Express).
TBR’s view – Koulibaly would be a top Liverpool signing
The report claims Liverpool could sell Joel Matip this summer and bring in Koulibaly and such business would take the Reds to the next level – even if bringing in Koulibaly would be slightly harsh on Joe Gomez.
There is a case to be made that a partnership of Koulibaly and van Dijk could be the best central defensive combination at club level – and perhaps for some time. More than affordable for Liverpool, Koulibaly would be a top signing.
