Liverpool are one of a number of teams interested in signing Rennes star Benjamin Bourigeaud this summer.
The 25-year-old has been attracting attention after a brilliant 2018/19 season that saw him score nine goals and lay on 10 assists.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Bourigeaud is interesting the Reds, who are arguably in need of a creative midfielder.
Jurgen Klopp is not expected to splash big money this summer, but he did recently hint that some spending will be required.
He said (quoted by The Express): “Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didn’t spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldn’t be able to compete.”
Rennes apparently want in the region of £18 million for the two-cap France U20 international, who is also interesting Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
With Klopp hinting that he will spend to compete with his Premier League rivals, £18 million-rated Bourigeaud seems like a move that could have legs.
As good as Liverpool were last season, the midfield didn’t contribute too much in terms of goals and assists.
They were fantastic in the defensive phase and the press, but chance creation was left to the full-backs and wide men, as well as the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri off the bench.
Bourigeaud is a talented and versatile attacking midfielder who has excellent vision and delivery.
He is also very handy from set-piece situations which is an added bonus if ever Trent Alexander-Arnold was unavailable.
