Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Daryl Janmaat on a short-term deal with Jurgen Klopp’s defensive injury problems stacking up.

According to TeamTalk, the Reds have been offered the 31-year-old who was released by Watford at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Liverpool are without Virgil van Dijk possibly until the end of the season; whilst Joe Gomez picked up a serious injury on international duty yesterday.

Janmaat has been linked with a move to Liverpool previously. He was on a list of targets when Brendan Rodgers was in charge back in 2015.

The Holland international has 145 Premier League appearances to his name and would be a decent addition on a short-term deal.

He has proven himself capable of playing at centre-back or as a right-back and his versatility makes him ideal.

The report claims that Janmaat comes with a glowing reference from Gini Wijnaldum who knows the player from Holland duty.

Janmaat suffered an injury of his own last season; although he is now fit and ready to sign for a new club.

The 31-year-old would only be a short-term measure but getting another player through the door seems badly needed.

TBR View – Janmaat experience could be telling for Liverpool

The established player might not be the biggest name but the fact he’s got Premier League experience could make him a decent acquisition.

Liverpool have been dealt a rotten hand with injuries and his ability to play in a number of positions looks like a positive.

Joel Matip is the only senior centre-back and his injury record is hardly glowing.

Beggars can’t really be choosers and signing Janmaat until January at the least looks like a deal which Liverpool simply have to do.

The versatile performer enjoyed decent times at Newcastle and if Klopp can get him up to speed quickly he could prove a useful signing.
