Cadena COPE report that Liverpool and a handful of other clubs offered Ansu Fati double the amount of wages on his new Barcelona contract.

Aged just 18, Fati has boundless potential. Arguably the best at his age in world football, Fati has already scored 15 senior goals for Barcelona.

He is just two games away from reaching a milestone 50, which will see him become the third youngest to reach that figure – behind Pedri and Bojan.

Just this season, Fati has returned from injury to play in Barcelona’s last five league and cup games. The four-time Spain ace had scored two goals.

His previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season – but Fati has now penned terms until June 2027. A £1billion clause has been included.

But Cadena COPE say that Barcelona had competition – with Manchester United, PSG and Liverpool all offering double his new wage packet.

Liverpool make Fati offer: Would have been a sensational signing

Firstly, Liverpool need options in attack. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are set to jet off for the African Cup of Nations at the end of December.

The absence of both will highlight a proper lack in depth. Secondly, Fati has the potential and ability to overtake either Salah or Mane soon.

His quality is so high, that in a couple of season, both Salah or Mane could find themselves overtaken by Fati. Little surprise, an offer was made.

But Fati has probably made the right decision. Stick to what he knows currently, keep impressing and gaining valuable experience.
