Report: Liverpool now likely to miss out on Hakan Calhanoglu with Juventus keen
Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Hakan Calhanoglu and could now miss out on the Turkish star to Juventus.
The Turkish international has had a hand in 21 goals with AC Milan this season, nine of which were goals. However, he is expected to leave the Rossoneri and Liverpool and Juventus are said to be keen.
But while reports from the other day suggested Liverpool were in talks, it appears Juventus have now jumped the queue. Calciomercato claims that now formal offer was ever forthcoming from Liverpool and that Juventus will now attempt to finalise a deal for Calhanoglu.
It is believed the return of Max Allegri to the Turin club has sped plans up to land the Turkish midfielder. Liverpool, meanwhile, appear to be completely out of the running just like that.
Calhanoglu has 55 caps for his country. A former Bayer Leverkusen star, the 27-year-old has simply allowed his Milan contract to run down. A big pay day, then, could now be on the cards for him.
Liverpool miss out on Calhanoglu to Juventus – Big blow for the Reds but more fish in the sea
Liverpool fans probably had their hopes up when news broke before the weekend of the Calhanoglu deal. However, in a matter of days, those hopes have been shattered.
It’s a big shame, too. On a freebie, there won’t have been many better options out there than Calhanoglu. Further, at 27, he’s about in his prime and would have surely relished Premier League football.
With Gini Wijnaldum out the door, the Reds could do with a new face in and missing out on the Turkish star means more work needs doing. Ultimately, this one is a real shame for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit.
