Jurgen Klopp is reportedly eyeing up a surprise fourth summer signing, with Correio da Manha reporting that Liverpool are preparing talks for Sporting CP’s Matheus Nunes.
The Reds have already added Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay to their talented squad this summer, but it appears they might not be finished just yet.
Liverpool had appeared to rule out making any more signings this summer, with Jurgen Klopp on record as saying he is happy with his options in midfield.
But now Liverpool seemingly want to beat their Merseyside rivals to the signing of Nunes after Everton watched the midfielder throughout the course of last season.
Liverpool have already found success in bringing players in from the Portuguese league after Luis Diaz made an instant impact after joining from FC Porto in January. And it looks like Klopp wants to repeat the trick after signing Nunez and now targeting the Sporting midfielder.

Liverpool ready to begin Nunes talks
The midfielder would apparently cost the Reds an initial fee of around £38.5 million and then a further £4.2 million in add-ons.
Liverpool see the Portugal international as a ‘priority’ signing and preparing to negotiate with Sporting over a deal to sign him.
It would be a bitter blow for Frank Lampard and Everton if they were to lose out on Nunes to their bitter rivals. Especially after O Jogo in Portugal reported that the Toffees had made the midfielder a priority for the summer transfer window after scouting him last season.

The 23-year-old was ever-present for the Portuguese side last season as he made 50 appearances in all competitions. Nunes operates as a central midfielder and chipped in with four goals and five assists during that time.
The midfielder was born in Brazil but represents Portugal at national level and made his debut for the country back in September.
TBR’s View: Everton will hope Liverpool interest isn’t concrete
After scouting Nunes last season, it would be a bitter pill to swallow for Everton if Liverpool sign the player. The Toffees cannot compete with their Merseyside rivals at this moment in time so they’ll be hoping the Reds don’t firm up their apparent interest.
Lampard has only managed to bring in James Tarkowski on a free transfer so far and the club have also lost their talisman of last season in Richarlison. The Everton boss will be keen to get some new faces through the door as soon as possible to prepare for the upcoming season.
