Liverpool considered trying to bring Stuart Webber back to Anfield but now appear to have shelved a potential move.
Liverpool are not only looking for a new manager this summer as Jurgen Klopp heads for the exit this summer.
A new sporting director will also be needed as short-term appointment Jorg Schmadtke left the club following the end of the January transfer window.
This will be a new era for Liverpool but they considered bringing a former Red back to Anfield to replace Schmadtke…
Liverpool appear to shelve Stuart Webber move
The Athletic report that Liverpool were looking at options to replace Schmadtke and work alongside Klopp for the foreseeable future.
It’s suggested that there was real support inside Anfield for Stuart Webber to come in and lead Liverpool’s recruitment.
Webber is a former Liverpool man having worked as the club’s head of scouting between 2009 and 2012.
Webber moved on to Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers before making a real name for himself in charge of Huddersfield Town.
That is where Webber appointed David Wagner as manager before then reuniting at Norwich City.
Wagner is Klopp’s best friend and is understood to have given glowing references about Webber.

The plan was for Webber to work alongside Klopp but the Liverpool boss has since decided to leave this summer, effectively scrapping those plans.
Webber handed in his notice at Norwich City last summer and officially left the club in November, so he is now waiting for his next opportunity.
Webber – hailed as ‘amazing’ by Norwich’s Delia Smith – played a key role in Huddersfield’s promotion before then seeing Norwich win two promotions to the Premier League.
The 39-year-old has had decent success in his two big jobs but becoming Liverpool’s transfer chief is another level of expectation.
Webber would go from looking to land bargains with resale value to needing to sign players capable of playing in the Champions League.
That is a major jump and we would be surprised to see Webber return to Anfield any time soon with bigger candidates no doubt in mind.
