Liverpool have been named as the latest club to be interested in signing Lille midfielder, Boubakary Soumare.

The French news outlet, Le10 Sport, names the Reds as one of the clubs said to be keen on Soumare, as AC Milan are believed to be stepping into the fray in what is a fierce race to land the 21-year-old.

A full French under-21 international and a standout performer for Lille, Soumare is known to have had admiring glances from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle.

Indeed, the Sun claimed back in January that Soumare had snubbed a £35m move to Tyneside, opting to stay with Lille instead.

But Liverpool could now be ready to step into the fray if Le10 Sport is correct. The Reds are not actively making big purchases this summer, however, they could lose Gini Wijnaldum soon and a deal for Thiago appears to be stalling.

Soumare, then, may well be a good option to have in the back pocket for Jurgen Klopp.

A few conversations have started to crop up of late around Liverpool’s need to freshen things up. The Community Shield loss has already got some talking about how they need to keep investing to stay on top. And it is true, to a certain extent.

Jurgen Klopp is getting the maximum from his players but he would no doubt love a few more players in the mix.

Soumare is of real quality, too. Aggressive, full of running and equally as capable with the ball, he’d be ideal, especially if Liverpool did lose Wijnaldum.
