Report: Liverpool, Manchester City, West Ham join race for Mourinho's Roma starlet Ebrima Darboe
Roma talent Ebrima Darboe is certainly catching the eye among Premier League clubs, having broken into the Serie A side’s senior team. A recent report suggested both Tottenham and Arsenal were keen, but 90Min claim Manchester City, Liverpool, West Ham and others have joined the race.
Darboe, 19, started Roma’s final four Serie A games under Paulo Fonseca – as the outgoing Roma boss chose to give the African star some game time. It is claimed that despite his impressive performances in those matches, incoming boss Jose Mourinho is willing to sell if the price is right.
The ex-Tottenham and Manchester United gaffer wants experience in the middle of the park – with Nemanja Matic being linked. That means Darboe will fall down the pecking order even further. His performances towards the end of the season has done enough for English clubs to come calling.
Indeed, Corriere Dello Sport claimed in May that both North London clubs – Arsenal and Spurs – wanted Darboe. But they are not alone. 90Min now claim that Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, West Ham, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Norwich are all keen. 10 clubs, then.
Half of the Premier League want Darboe – but is Liverpool best move?
Darboe has the pick of the bunch. But which would suit him best? Well, he needs to find a club that allows him to get game time – but one that are on the up, and in European football. West Ham would be a good option. The Hammers have given young players a chance and need cover in midfield.
But surely it is difficult to look past Liverpool, as they embark on a midfield upheaval over the next couple of seasons. Gini Wijnaldum is leaving, James Milner has a year left on his contract. Jordan Henderson is injury prone, as is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Naby Keita could leave this summer.
Darboe would get game time at Anfield. So, a move to Liverpool is ideal for the teenager.
