Barcelona have acted with Liverpool making contact with the representatives of Pedri, with The Sunday Mirror (11/4; page 70) reporting that the Catalan giants have offered the 18-year-old a new contract.
The teenager looks to be one of the most exciting talents coming through at the Nou Camp. He has scored three goals and contributed six assists in all competitions this term.
His form has seen Pedri rewarded with a call-up to the Spanish national team this year. And he now has three caps under his belt.
His emergence appears to have caught Liverpool’s eye. According to the Sunday Mirror (11/4; page 70), the Premier League champions have registered an interest with his representatives.
And that has prompted Barca to offer him a new contract. The report claims that the deal would run for four years and include a release clause closer to £350 million.
Of course, that would put significantly more power in Barcelona’s hands. According to the Mirror, his current deal has two years left – with an option for a further two years. And his release clause stands at £70 million.
Obviously, Liverpool would likely have no interest in going near his potential buyout clause. But Pedri signing a new deal would likely end the Reds’ interest anyway.
If he is keen on a move to Anfield anytime soon, he can surely put the Reds on notice by rejecting Barcelona’s offer.
A deal from there would still not be easy. But it would certainly encourage Liverpool to take the next few steps.
