Report: Liverpool make calls for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Liverpool have made a few calls about the possibility of signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that they are unwilling to meet his £85.7 million asking price.

The Reds have a huge void to fill in their midfield this summer. Georginio Wijnaldum moved on for Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the window.

And it appears that one player they have their eye on as a possible replacement for the Dutchman is Milinkovic-Savic.

According to Calciomercato, the Reds have made some calls regarding a potential move for the 26-year-old.

Calciomercato reports that Lazio’s majority owner Claudio Lotito wants £85.7 million (€100 million) for Milinkovic-Savic.

Liverpool meanwhile, are only willing to offer up to £68.5 million (€80 million).

Milinkovic-Savic could be inspired target – if Liverpool are prepared to break bank

Links between Milinkovic-Savic and Liverpool initially emerged earlier this summer.

Plenty of fans reacted to those reports by suggesting that they would love to see the 26-year-old signed. So it would be very interesting to see what they make of the links with a €100 million asking price.

Liverpool have been more reserved in the market in recent years. The deal for Ibrahima Konate seemed to be a big statement of intent.

So it would be a surprise if they were willing to meet Lazio’s demands.

Milinkovic-Savic – who reportedly dreams of playing for Real Madrid – would have the potential to be an inspired signing.

He averages better than a goal or assist every three games in Serie A during his career. He scored eight times in the top flight last year, while he provided 10 assists.

The Serbia international also offers plenty defensively. And he should be approaching his peak.

So if Liverpool are prepared to break the bank for Wijnaldum’s replacement, perhaps Milinkovic-Savic would be a fantastic option.
