Report: Liverpool made contact over Ismaila Sarr transfer, price-tag saw them back away

Liverpool look set to complete a deal to sign Wolves attacker Diogo Jota in the coming hours, with the player set to join in a reported £41 million deal.

But it appears he was not the only attacker that Liverpool were looking into this week.

As reported by the Liverpool ECHO, contact was made with Watford earlier this week regarding a potential deal for Ismaila Sarr.

The report claims Liverpool got in touch with the player, who was one of the stars of the Hornets season despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

However, the report claims an asking price of over £40 million put Liverpool off of the deal.

The Daily Mail have also reported on the contact with Watford, but they claim Sarr was valued at over £50 million, a figure Liverpool are right to turn away from.

The ECHO report seems to suggest the structure of the deal in place with Wolves is vastly more beneficial to Liverpool financially than that Watford would have wanted for the Senegalese star, who shocked Liverpool with a stunning performance back in February.

Liverpool clearly decided that Watford’s demands for Sarr were simply unreasonable given the player’s relative inexperience in the Premier League.

Jota seems a safer bet, given his longer tenure in English football and Liverpool fans will just hope the club have invested in the right attacker.
