Report: Liverpool-linked David Alaba requesting £300k-a-week wages

Liverpool-linked defender, David Alaba, is apparently demanding wages of around £300k-a-week as he looks to seal a new contract either with Bayern or elsewhere.

Reported by 90Min, they claim that Alaba has apparently priced himself out of a move to Barcelona by demanding around £15m a season in wages, as well as a hefty signing on fee.

That news could well startle Liverpool, who, according to AS, are said to be monitoring the Austrian. The Reds are keen on looking at potential defensive reinforcements with Virgil van Dijk out injured, and Alaba is a player who can cover multiple positions.

However, wages around the £300k mark could put the Reds off. Their own top earner is goal machine, Mo Salah, who Spotrac claim earns around the £200k-a-week bracket.

Liverpool, then, could decide to look elsewhere when it comes to Alaba. At 28, he might not be worth the big contract and could upset the balance of things in terms of structure at Anfield.

Ludicrous demands but this is a top player after all – TBR View

On one hand, this is an enormous demand from a player who is predominantly a defensive minded footballer. On the flipside to that, this is also someone at the peak of their powers and in their prime years, who has played for the very best.

Alaba is also a serial winner, so it does beg the question of if he is actually worth the money.

It’s a big call this for Liverpool. The wages are huge but there is no fee, so does it balance out? Regardless, Alaba is a fine player who would improve the Anfield squad even further.
