Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer.

This is according to Tuttosport, who claim Jurgen Klopp has been eyeing the 24-year-old for at least three seasons.

Indeed, the Italian outlet claims that Bremer’s associates have ‘confirmed’ to Klopp that he’s ‘ready to be signed’.

Liverpool aren’t the only club reportedly in the race for the Brazilian, however.

As well as the Reds, the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham are also eyeing Bremer.

And there’s also competition from Torino’s Serie A competitors, including Inter, Milan, Juventus and Napoli.

“He’s goal-obsessed”

Bremer has impressed for his club since arriving in 2018, making 102 appearances.

He also has a good goal contribution tally for a centre-back – 12 goals and five assists.

Indeed, Torino boss Ivan Juric paid tribute to the 6ft 2in star’s eagerness to score in November last year.

“He always wants to score, he’s goal-obsessed,” DAZN – via Calciomercato – quotes Juric as saying.

“Indeed, he was angry for having missed shots (against Udinese in November).”

Torino are thought to value Bremer in and around the £33million mark.

A great player – but do Liverpool need him?

If there’s one area of the Liverpool squad where there’s a lot of strength in depth, it’s central defence.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are all vying for the two slots in the XI.

Indeed, Konate should certainly be getting a lot more game time than he is, such is the competition.

You also have Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips waiting in the wings, both on long-term contracts.

Perhaps Klopp is looking at potential long-term successors for Van Dijk and Matip, who are both 30.

But in that case, you’d think Williams and Phillips would be next in line.

After all, they’ve both shown they have what it takes at the top level.
