Liverpool have reportedly been joined in the hunt for midfielder Thiago by their Premier League title rivals Manchester City.
The Reds’ task of signing the Spanish maestro may have just gotten considerably more difficult, with SportBild claiming Pep Guardiola is interested in a reunion with the 29-year-old.
Guardiola knows the qualities of Thiago very well having managed him at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
City, of course, are losing one Spaniard in David Silva, who is bringing to an end a highly successful 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
Until now, Liverpool have been the only real team in the picture regarding Thiago.
It is claimed that while Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the former Barcelona star, Liverpool do not want to pay over €30 million/£27 million. Sky Sports report Bayern are believed to want £30 million.
Thiago has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at the Allianz Arena, winning seven league titles.
TBR’s View – Your move, Liverpool
It seems very likely Thiago will be moving on this summer – it is just a case of where he will end up.
Klopp is known to rate Thiago highly, but City and Guardiola are probably the last team Liverpool want sniffing around the player.
If they really want him, it’ll be important they don’t try and mess around with City reportedly now in the picture.
The previous relationship between Guardiola and Thiago is perhaps worryingly significant, so risks shouldn’t be taken and the money should be paid for a player who would undoubtedly improve the squad.
