Premier League champions Liverpool have entered the race to sign Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan, according to The Express.
Jurgen Klopp’s squad could benefit from another central defender. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all currently nursing injury problems ruling them out of action.
Some reports have suggested that signing another defender isn’t a priority this month and that won’t sit nicely with some supporters.

With that in mind, the reports regarding Simakan might come as music to some ears.
The 20-year-old is highly-rated and has proved one of the standout defensive prospects in Ligue 1 during 2020/21 so far.
Scouts from the top European clubs have been to see him in action, including those of Liverpool.
Deemed a ball-playing defender, Simakan is adept when it comes to playing out from the back and that should suit Klopp’s style.
It is thought that Liverpool are now in a three-horse race to sign the player, with Leipzig and AC Milan also keen.
Standing at 6ft 2in the player cuts an imposing figure and adding a potential future star would certainly bode well for the Reds.
Milan have tabled an offer of £13.5 million for the player, whilst Leipzig would be keen to sign him and then loan him back to his current club.
TBR View: Simakin would be ideal Reds signing
When Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are fit, they are likely to remain the first-choice pairing.

With that in mind, signing a younger defender for the short-term looks like an ideal thing to do.
Simakan could come to Anfield, slot in this season and then play a deputy role next season once the primary centre-backs are fit.
The French starlet fits the profile of a Michael Edwards signing perfectly and he could prove a sensible Liverpool addition this month.
