Report: Liverpool join Everton and Tottenham in race for Merih Demiral

Liverpool have joined Tottenham and Everton in the race to sign Juventus performer Merih Demiral during the summer transfer window, according to Tutto Juve.

Demiral has been at the Old Lady since July 2019 and has three years remaining on his contract with the Serie A outfit.

Injuries have hampered his progress this season and as a result, his game time has proved extremely limited.

Nonetheless, the 23-year-old is attracting interest from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool the latest to emerge as potential suitors.

Their Stanley Park rivals Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City will provide domestic competition for his signature.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are keen on signing the player and could both offer Champions League football to the player.

Demiral hasn’t featured for Juventus since March when he starred during a 3-1 win over Lazio. He has made 14 appearances in Serie A this season and could be available for transfer in the summer.

Liverpool have seen their title defence decimated by injuries to key players, particularly at the heart of their back four.

Virgil van Dijk has been out for the majority of the campaign, whilst Joe Gomez has also suffered a serious knee ligament injury.

As a result, the club will likely target some reinforcements at the back in an attempt to avoid a repeat next season.

TBR View: Demiral could be shrewd capture for Liverpool

With the jury out on Ozan Kabak, the Reds might turn to other options and his compatriot could prove an ideal addition to the ranks.

He boasts the experience of playing in a top European league and at 23 has plenty of time to continue developing.

Demiral earns £58,000-a-week and as a result, he wouldn’t be a signing which would break the bank.

Liverpool are unlikely to be in the Champions League next season and with that in mind, they could need to shop in a different market for players.

Given their current situation, Demiral could prove a decent addition and Jurgen Klopp would be wise to steal a march on his rivals.
