Liverpool are in advanced talks about finalising a deal that would see Timo Werner move to Anfield in the summer.
According to the respected Italian journalist, Nicolo Shira, the Reds are willing to pay the supposed €58m release clause in the German’s contract at RB Leipzig.
Werner has been linked with a move to a number of clubs throughout January but Liverpool have emerged as the favourites. Indeed, Werner has admitted he is open to a move away from the Bundesliga this summer.
Signing Werner would add yet another attacking string to Liverpool’s bow. The 23-year-old has scored 25 times across all competitions this season. Adding those goals to the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino would only increase the goal threat the Reds possess.
Werner has been a key part of the rise of Leipzig in German football. He’s scored over 20 goals in all competitions in each of the last three seasons.
However, his signing would go against Klopp claiming there was ‘no interest’ in the forward earlier in the week.
Yet more strength in depth – TBR View
This is worrying for the rest of the Premier League. Liverpool adding yet another top attacking talent to their ranks sets down a massive marker.
Jurgen Klopp is clearly not resting on his laurels with his Reds squad. Most successful teams don’t stand still and Klopp is certainly ensuring Liverpool don’t here.
In Werner, they are getting a proven goalscorer. His record speaks for itself in the last few seasons in German football.
At just 23 as well, he’s the ideal age to keep on improving. We’ve seen how Klopp improves players with his coaching methods and man-management. The likes Mane, Henderson, and Wijnaldum have all come on leaps and bounds under the guidance of the German.
As Liverpool plunder towards the Premier League title, adding yet more goals in the form of Werner gives them every chance of further success down the line.
