The Mirror have claimed that Liverpool have informed Philippe Coutinho’s agents that they have no interest in re-signing the Brazilian playmaker this summer – but Tottenham are trying to drive a ‘hard bargain’ to sign the Barcelona star.
Coutinho, 27, is currently on loan at Bayern Munich after a disappointing 2018-19 campaign with Barcelona. However, such is his fall from grace, Coutinho has managed to start only 22 games in all competitions – though he has had a hand in 17 goals.
Prominently linked with a move to the Premier League, some reports have even claimed Coutinho came within an inch of joining Spurs last summer. Now, a move to north London could be on again.
That is because Liverpool have told Coutinho’s representatives that there is no chance he will be coming back to Anfield. Spurs remain keen and are trying to drive a ‘hard bargain’, given Barcelona want a whopping £107million.
TBR’s view – Tottenham and Mourinho could get Coutinho back on track
One of the world’s best when on the top of his game, Coutinho’s departure saw Liverpool blossom – using his sale to buy Alisson and Virgil van Dijk. Coutinho, on the other hand, has plummeted in confidence.
He needs to join a club where he is the main man again. With Tottenham losing a talisman in Christian Eriksen back in January, Coutinho would be the ideal replacement and if Spurs can land him for about £80million – they would sign a bargain.
