London club Crystal Palace are targeting a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, Palace are interested in the Reds shot-stopper and could face competition from Premier League rivals Brighton too for him.
It is understood that the Belgium internatonal is available to exit Anfield this summer and would cost around £8million.
The report details that Southampton’s Alex McCarthy is viewed as a replacement, but Mignolet could say on Merseyside if his valuation is not met
Mignolet, who earns £60,000-a-week (Spotrac), played just two first-team games last season for Liverpool and had to watch teammate Alisson Becker shine in net.
The 31-year-old has still proven over the years he’s a decent goalkeeper, with the report also adding that teams in Germany and France are monitoring his situation.
He still has two years left on his current deal with Liverpool, but it seems Jurgen Klopp’s men are prepared to grant him an exit.
Mignolet has remained a total professional despite becoming a forgotten figure at Liverpool and that’s why he deserves his move in the summer.
He’s made some individual errors since he joined the Reds back in 2013 and unfortunately for him the team have moved on under Brazilian Alisson during the last year.
But on his day he’s a decent goalkeeper that is reliable with the ball at his feet and may be an £8million bargain for someone.
Palace seems like a good fit for Mignolet if that moves comes to fruition and he deserves to be playing regular first-team football for a Premier League outfit or in a top-flight for a major European league.
Any number two goalkeeper at Liverpool needs to understand they will be playing second fiddle to Alisson if they do arrive, so will need to take any chances that come their way.
