Report: Liverpool face competition for target with more goal contributions than Mane last season
Liverpool reportedly face competition for Federico Chiesa this summer in the form of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
According to CalcioMercato, the German giants are keen on the Italian winger.
The Juventus star was one of Italy’s key players in their Euro 2020 winning campaign. However, the report states that Liverpool are still leading the race for Chiesa.
The Reds are eager to add more firepower to their attack ahead of next season. And Chiesa’s form this summer has drawn in plenty of suitors for the 23-year-old forward.
Indeed, last season the former Fiorentina star was one of Juventus’ best performing players.
Chiesa hit 15 goals and 11 assists for the Old Lady, one more goal contribution than Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane. The Senegal star scored 16 and assisted nine last campaign.
Although Chiesa has attracted plenty of interest from clubs this summer, it is unlikely that Juventus will sell the winger in the window.
With the futures of both Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo up in the air, head coach Massimiliano Allegri will be keen to retain as much attacking talent as possible ahead of next season.
And with Chiesa’s stock rising this summer during the Euros, Juventus will want to keep the Italy superstar around for an extra season to see how the young winger develops with another year of Serie A and UEFA Champions League football under his belt.
