Report: Liverpool eye move for Serie A player linked with Manchester United

Premier League champions Liverpool have been named by Fiorentina News as contenders in the quest to sign highly-rated defender Nikola Milenkovic.

The 23-year-old has been linked with both Manchester-based clubs but the Reds are now thought to be in the picture.

Milenkovic has made 119 appearances for Fiorentina since arriving from Partizan Belgrade in 2017.

During the 2020/21 campaign, the youngster has played 23 times and has even shown his ability to fill in at right-back.

Liverpool are likely to be in the market for another defender during the summer transfer window.

Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies both arrived on deadline day during the January transfer window.

That probably won’t stop the Reds from targeting a higher calibre of player in the summer though, with Klopp looking to further strengthen his squad.

Liverpool are set to relinquish their Premier League crown this season, just a year after claiming a maiden title.

That will sting Klopp and he will go in search of more quality to add his ranks during the close season.

Milenkovic is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and Fiorentina may have no choice other than to cash in.

The centre-back earns just £26,000-a-week in Serie A and he’d likely jump at the chance to head to Anfield.

Liverpool will have to be quite careful over who they sign at centre-back during the summer. Virgil van Dijk will instantly go back into the team, whilst Klopp also rates Joe Gomez.

With that in mind, a young, hungry defender with a potential to improve and a point to prove could be ideal.

Milenkovic ticks those boxes and with Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all linked in the past, Liverpool could be stealing a march on their rivals.
