Liverpool manager Jurgen Kloopp reportedly has two quality defenders in his sights, with Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano mentioned as possible targets.

According to Italian outlet Passione Inter, the Reds look set to lose Dejan Lovren at the end of the season and are on the lookout for possible centre-back replacements.

It is understood that Klopp has Gimenez and Gimenez Upamecano on his shortlist are two of the players to look at.

Gimenez, 25, is an experienced star at Spanish club Atletico Madrid and has been drilled by manager Diego Simeone in his defending.

He’s a ball-playing centre-back that has earned 58 senior international caps for Uruguay and been a top player across Europe in recent season, despite injury disrupting this campaign for him.

Upamecano is a more upcoming talent at German side RB Leipzig, but his performances mean many rank him as one of the best young centre-backs around.

The 21-year-old is an explosive powerhouse with great strength and pace, plus he has a great composure on the ball too.

The Daily Mail has reported that he’s got a £50million release clause, which has attracted the interest from Tottenham and Arsenal.

TBR’s View – Both would be incredible additions

Upamecano looks a real possible bargain at £50million if Liverpool decide to ramp up interest in him and has already proven himself on the big stage, plus he’s got all the strength to succeed in England.

Meanwhile, Gimenez is a streetwise defender that is very highly-rated too and would add some steel at the back.

The only problem Liverpool may have is attracting top centre-backs to Anfield, as they would have to try break up the solid combination of Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez if they joined.
