Report: Liverpool eye 106-cap superstar who Klopp raved about

Liverpool are keen on doing a deal to bring in World Cup and Champions League winning midfield star, Toni Kroos, according to reports from Spain.

The reports come from El Nacional, who claim that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are big fans of the Real Madrid superstar. Kroos, 31, has been a roaring success in Madrid. The German has made over 300 appearances for Los Blancos, winning everything he can in that time.

However, El Nacional claim that Liverpool are looking at doing a deal for around £20m for the 106-cap star. That figure, of course, represents a bargain deal for someone of such quality.

But with the big clubs – including Madrid – struggling for cash in La Liga, a deal could be there for the Reds. El Nacional claim that Kroos could leave, with Madrid having one eye on the future.

Kroos is highly-regarded by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, it was only six months back that Klopp branded the German as one of the greats of the game.

“Oh, one of the biggest talents in German football for a long, long, long time. He is a great player since very early, he was really young,” Klopp said.

With Gini Wijnaldum not replaced, Kroos would surely be ideal at Anfield.

TBR’s View: Kroos world-class but is he right for Liverpool?

There is no doubt that Toni Kroos is a world-class operator. He’s a winner, a proven player, and full of class. However, whether he fits Klopp and Liverpool’s style is another question.

We’ve seen with Thiago how he took a long time to adapt. Kroos might be the same. He’s hardly known for his high-pressing style, so might find things tough going at Anfield.

However, the pros probably outweigh the cons here. In essence, if Liverpool land Kroos, nobody at the club will complain.
