Report: Liverpool enter race to sign Chelsea star in January that Klopp once labelled a ‘fantastic player’

CalcioMercato report that Liverpool could pursue a shock move to sign Chelsea star Christian Pulisic in January – with Jurgen Klopp an admirer.

£150k-a-week (Spotrac) Pulisic has only been afforded 208 minutes of game time this season – with a positive test followed by an ankle injury.

But when the 41-time USA international has been available, he has been benched – being used as a sub. He scored against Leicester on Sunday.

It was his second Premier League goal in just three games, having netted in a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace in the first league game of the season.

Now, Liverpool could take advantage. The Reds are likely to be in the market for a winger in the window and Pulisic is a player Klopp likes.

“I like Christian,” Klopp said in 2018. “He’s a fantastic player, and it’s deserved people think highly of him in America. In Germany it’s the same.”

Pulisic to Liverpool: Could Chelsea star really join PL title rivals?

At this early stage in the season, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are the front runners to challenge for the Premier League title.

So, for one of those three clubs to sell to another of the three clubs in January would be a move that generates enormous criticism.

Especially if they do well. Pulisic is a world-class talent with enormous potential that has not been realised yet – but under Klopp, he easily could.

With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane jetting off to the African Cup of Nations in little over a month – Liverpool need cover. Chelsea’s no.10 would be ideal.
