According to transfer expert, Ian McGarry, Liverpool have now firmly entered the frame for Celtic striker, Odsonne Edouard.
McGarry was speaking on the Transfer Window podcast with fellow respected journalist Duncan Castles, and confirmed that Liverpool now hold a serious interest in Edouard.
The Reds will have to beat a few names should they wish to land him. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Frenchman, while Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, nearly signed him in January.
But McGarry claims that Liverpool are now firmly in the race, amidst fears one of their top forwards could leave this summer.
“Liverpool and Arsenal are two teams who are chasing Odsonne Edouard of Celtic, Duncan. He’s a player who we have mentioned a few times on the podcast. Mostly with regards to Arsenal’s interest,” McGarry said.
“What I think is interesting about the fact that Liverpool have entered the equation is that they have done so on the basis that they expect or at least suspect one of the front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane may leave in the summer.”
Edouard is widely-regarded as one of the very best strikers in Scotland. Scottish legend Gordon Strachan has previously said the Celtic man is similar to Dennis Bergkamp, in that he prefers to drop deeper than be a traditional number nine.
TBR View: Edouard a fine player who would suit Liverpool
It’s no secret in the footballing world that Liverpool could do with adding a new striker or two. This season has exposed those problems in the Reds squad.
Edouard could be perfect really. He brings goals and is a proven finisher, while he’s also young enough to learn and improve under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance.
He won’t cost the world either. He was said to be available for around £15m in January, which is a huge bargain in the modern game.
