Liverpool are one of the clubs who have registered an interest in Porto defender Chancel Mbemba, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.

The 26-year-old has been a key part of the Porto side who have booked their spot in the last eight of the Champions League alongside Jurgen Klopp’s men.

However, there are doubts about his future at Estadio do Dragao. According to Tuttomercatoweb, he is out of contract at the end of next season. And it appears that a number of clubs are taking notice of his form.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Napoli have enquired about the former Newcastle United man. And it is claimed that the Reds have also asked about Mbemba.

The report adds that Porto value the DR Congo international at around £12.8 million (€15 million).

Mbemba has taken his game to another level since leaving Newcastle for £7 million in 2018 (fee reported by The Northern Echo). He produced a colossal performance this week as Sergio Conceicao’s men knocked Juventus out of the Champions League.

And as he will seemingly not cost a huge sum, he could certainly prove to be a shrewd signing for Liverpool.

If the Reds can get Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez back to their best, they may not necessarily need to spend a marquee sum in the summer.

But with Napoli in the running for his signature, Liverpool may not have a clear run to his signature.
