Report: Liverpool could sell two out-on-loan players to help fund Timo Werner move

The Daily Express have claimed that Liverpool may look to sell two of their loan stars to help fund a move for RedBull Leipzig striker Timo Werner – in the form of Hertha Berlin’s Marko Grujic and Bournemouth star Harry Wilson.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Werner, who turned 24 earlier this month. The 29-time Germany international has been in lethal form this season, netting 27 goals in 36 appearances – and had laid on 12 assists in that time, too.

Werner is said to have a release clause worth £50million and that is due to expire in April, as per the Express’ report, and Liverpool will need to act quickly if they are to activate said clause. Now, it appears plans are being put in place.

Despite being in a very strong financial position, it is understood that Liverpool are looking to sell two of their up-and-coming midfield talents in order to fund a move. Wilson has scored seven league goals this season, and is worth £25m (Standard).

Indeed, the Welsh ace is impressing at Bournemouth – as is Grujic in Germany. With Hertha sitting perilously close to the relegation zone, Grujic has scored three league goals. But both Wilson and Grujic could now be sold to fund Werner’s move.

TBR’s view – Time for Grujic to go, but selling Wilson is a mistake

Grujic turns 24 in April and although he is impressing in the Bundesliga, he is far below the standard required of a team that are expected to win honours season after season. Selling him this summer would be best for the Serb’s career.

Wilson, on the other hand, is still only 22 and is showing enormous potential. To have scored seven league goals from midfield in a Bournemouth side that are struggling, really is top form. With Adam Lallana leaving on a free, Wilson should be kept.
