Liverpool could offload Xherdan Shaqiri this summer despite only signing him from Stoke City a year ago, according to Goal.
It is thought that the Reds might choose to sever ties with the Swiss attacker to make room for Villarreal star Samuel Chukwueze, with the Nigerian a target for Jurgen Klopp.
Shaqiri endured a frustrating first season with Liverpool. Although he featured in 30 games, only half of those were as starts. With the Champions League final still to come, he has scored five goals and registered six assists.
Chukwueze has been in fine fettle for Villarreal. The 20-year-old has netted eight goals from out wide, whilst he has also claimed four assists.
It would seem as though Klopp fancies a younger model in attack and could make the change during the summer.
Shaqiri is still a capable Premier League player and he will have no shortage of potential suitors should he opt to offload him.
The move to Liverpool hasn’t quite worked out for Shaqiri since joining from Stoke for £13 million (BBC Sport) last summer.
At 27-years-old he needs to be playing regular football and if he isn’t going to do that a move might be for the best.
Chukwueze is a younger option with better potential and a season or two as an impact substitute will probably suit him more than it would Shaqiri.
The Nigerian has looked like becoming a real star during 2018/19 and his arrival at Anfield could be a very exciting one for Liverpool supporters.
