Liverpool scouts made notes on three players during a recent trip to France. According to Mercato 365, Houssem Aouar was Liverpool’s main priority as they scouted a Ligue 1 game.
But they ended up taking notes on Memphis Depay and Tanguy Ndombele too. Liverpool scouts seemed impressed with the midfield trio ahead of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool sent scouts to check on the French top-flight clash between Marseille and Lyon. Marseille were thrashed 3-0 at home and went down to 10 men during the game.
This strengthened Lyon’s hold on third place, which is a Champions League qualifier spot. And Lyon duo Aouar and Ndombele impressed.
Aouar operates predominantly as a central midfielder, although he can also play in attacking midfield. The 20-year-old is an exciting talent who is lighting up Ligue 1.
With seven goals and 10 assists this season, the France U21 international could be a shrewd long-term purchase for Liverpool.
His central midfield partner Ndombele is another option. The tough-tackling 22-year-old is a defensive midfielder with 47 appearances, two goals and eight assists to his name this term.
The 4-cap France international was not the primary focus of Liverpool’s trip. But it appears he caught the eye with a dominant holding midfield display.
Marseille winger Depay, 25, is the other player Liverpool scouts watched. But the Netherlands international, formerly of Manchester United, failed to add to his tally of 10 goals and 15 assists this season.
