Report: Liverpool battling Manchester United and Pochettino for teenager
El Nacional claim that Liverpool are battling Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG for Barcelona wonderkid Gavi.
The 17-year-old has broken into Barcelona’s first team of late, clocking up seven senior appearances – two have come in the Champions League.
His form has not gone unnoticed by Luis Enrique, who started Gavi in his Spain side that beat Italy 2-1 on Wednesday night in the Nations League.
Incredibly talented, Gavi is another example of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy that also produced fellow midfield talent Pedri.
Other clubs are beginning to take notice too, largely because of Gavi’s contract. The midfielder is out of contract in June 2023.
Not only that, but his current deal includes a release clause worth £42million. A bargain, for a player that already has so much quality.
Which club suits Gavi best at this stage – Liverpool, United or PSG?
Gavi needs to be playing for a side where he will be promised consistent game time. A side where he will see plenty of the ball.
Pedri and Gavi are already in the mould of Xavi and Iniesta and honestly, he is probably better served to remain at the Nou Camp.
While Barcelona are struggling, Gavi is getting game time at the top level. He could be a part of the transition and turn around for years to come.
He suits Liverpool’s ball-playing, engine-like midfield. Manchester United need a midfielder. PSG have money. But Barcelona is ideal for Gavi.
