Report: Liverpool back showing 'strong interest' in PL rival's 23-year-old top goalscorer after summer talks

Liverpool are once again showing a strong interest in Ismaila Sarr following the Watford forward’s superb start to the Premier League season, according to a report from Calciomercato.

Sarr has been linked with a move away from Vicarage Road throughout much of his time at Vicarage Road.

In fact, it was reported earlier in the season that Liverpool had shown interest in the summer. It was even claimed that the Reds had held some talks about potentially signing the 23-year-old.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it would appear that their admiration of the youngster has not gone anywhere.

Calciomercato is reporting that there is strong interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side. It is noted that his contract runs out in 2024.

Sarr is one of the Premier League’s leading goalscorers so far this season. He has scored five times, leaving him level with Diogo Jota.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are two of the four players ahead of him in the goalscoring charts.

His latest strike came in the 4-1 win over Manchester United at the weekend in what proved to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s final game in charge.

Liverpool should delay Ismaila Sarr move until next summer with Watford in precarious situation

Some Reds fans will be hoping that the club target a new attacker in January. Both Salah and Mane will be on international duty in the new year.

However, signing Sarr does not address that problem. Sarr, of course, is Mane’s international teammate.

A move in January could still be worthwhile. But they may want to consider delaying a bid until next summer.

Watford could well be in the relegation mix. And should they go down, their asking price for Sarr will be a lot lower than what it would be in just over a month.

And even if they stay up, Watford could still face a dilemma as Sarr’s deal runs into its final two years.
