Liverpool reportedly asked Mino Raiola for information on Stefan de Vrij recently, but a move to Anfield next month appears unlikely.
FC Inter News claim the Reds have been in contact with the agent regarding the 38-cap Dutchman’s situation, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined for the foreseeable, of course.
Liverpool are expected to dip into the transfer market next month to get cover in, with Joel Matip’s record with injuries also far from encouraging.
Plenty of names have been linked since van Dijk and Gomez got injured, including Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate and Ruben Semedo.
FC Inter News say the Reds have recently sought information about de Vrij, who has become a key figure for Inter in recent times and is one of the leaders in the team.
The outlet claim the goal for the club is to get him to extend his contract.
TBR’s View – de Vrij a pipe dream for Liverpool
de Vrij – who has spoken of his admiration for his Netherlands teammate van Dijk (Football Oranje) – would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool, but any move next month is surely unlikely.
His current deal with Inter lasts until 2023, meaning he’d cost a fortune, especially since he’s in his prime at the age of 28.
Inter are once again challenging for the title over in Serie A, and keeping de Vrij will be absolutely key to their hopes.
Liverpool need a new centre-half, but they’ll almost certainly need to look elsewhere.
