Report: Liverpool, Arsenal and other European giants keeping tabs on Inter Milan sensation

Italian website FCInterNews have claimed that Liverpool, Arsenal and other European sides are interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nico Barella – despite the player only joining Inter permanently last summer.

Barella, 23, has emerged as a proper talent since swapping Cagliari for Inter. The 16-time Italy international initially joined Inter on loan last summer – but in a deal that included an obligation to buy, totalling a whopping £45million (Football Italia).

Since joining Inter, he has been a revelation. Mainly a box-to-box midfielder, Barella already has 50 appearances to his name for Inter – scoring four goals and creating 12 more. He has four assists in nine league and cup outings this season.

The report claims Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all interested – but Inter are trying to extend his contract. Currently earning £43,000 a week, Inter want to increase that to £70,000 – and extend his deal to 2025.

TBR’s view – Which team would suit Barella the most?

Donny van de Beek has shown that Manchester United boast too many midfielders. His inability to break into the United side highlights the amount of midfielders United boast – Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and more.

So, United do not need another. Arsenal have added Dani Ceballos and Thomas Partey and now look well-stocked in midfield, especially with Joe Willock impressing. Liverpool, on the other hand, could do with a midfielder.

Gini Wijnaldum is out of contract next summer while Naby Keita struggles to find his best form, and James Milner edges towards the final moments of the window. So, Barella might be ideal for Liverpool.
