Report: Liverpool and Tottenham both keen on Matthew Hoppe
According to a report from Transfermarkt, Liverpool are hoping to beat Spurs and other clubs to the signing of Schalke forward, Matthew Hoppe.
The young American striker has been making waves over in the Bundesliga. Hoewever, the report from Transfermarkt claims that Hoppe has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place which will allow him to leave this summer.
And Liverpool, along with the likes of Spurs and Dortmund, are said to be circling. A fee in the region of £7-8m has been suggested for Hoppe, who has scored five times this season and is still just 20-years-old.
A bruising central striker over six feet tall, Hoppe could well provide Jurgen Klopp with a completely different option to those that he currently has available.
The Reds are widely expected to make a move for a new number nine this summer. Roberto Firmino is in need of help, meaning players like Hoppe are bound to be considered by Anfield chiefs.
TBR View: Hoppe an exciting prospect, albeit not the finished article
There’s certainly plenty of potential there when it comes to Hoppe. He is a big presence but is good enough with the ball, and clearly looks at the right sort of player, after admitting he watches the likes of Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski closely.
Liverpool are desperate for a new forward at some point. Divock Origi is bound to be moving on, while the other options are more like midfielders or wingers filling in up top.
Hoppe ticks a lot of boxes for the Reds and at less than £10m, is a bargain really.
