Report: Liverpool and Newcastle both offered Matheus Cunha
Liverpool and Newcastle United have both been contacted by the representatives of Matheus Cunha and offered the chance to sign the Atletico Madrid forward, according to a report from 90min.
Cunha could well be on the way to the Premier League in January. 90min reports that Atletico are desperate to move his wages off the books. And Diego Simeone’s side will consider loaning him out in the hope of securing a permanent buyer further down the line.
Liverpool and Newcastle offered Cunha
However, Wolves are not the only team who could make a move. In fact, 90min suggests that a number of sides have made contact about a deal.
Meanwhile, the report adds that his representatives have reached out to Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle about a possible deal for Cunha. And it is noted that some of the teams offered him are yet to rule out a move.
Liverpool may have their eye on signing a new forward next month after losing Luis Diaz to injury. And they have shown a willingness to use the loan market, having brought in Arthur Melo from Juventus in the summer.
Newcastle meanwhile, are yet to get the best out of their record signing Alexander Isak due to injury. Callum Wilson’s form earned him a place in the England squad for the World Cup. But again, relying on Wilson can be difficult.
They do also have Chris Wood. But the New Zealander has not been prolific since his move from Burnley.
The Magpies signed Kieran Trippier from Atleti in January. And Transfermarkt shows that Cunha has the same agent as Bruno Guimaraes. So there are some strong links there.
Cunha has not had the best time with Atletico. But he has been labelled an ‘extraordinary‘ talent. And there are a host of clubs who desperately need a new striker next month.
