Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed Liverpool and Manchester United have both joined Arsenal in the race to sign Daniele Rugani om Juventus in January, as the Italian star struggles for game time under Maurizio Sarri.
Rugani, 25, has failed to make a single appearance for Juventus this season after the Italian champions brought in wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax and Turkish defender Merih Demiral from Sassuolo.
Italy international Rugani is highly rated in European football, after clocking up 87 outings for Juve. But with the January window approaching, it is believed Rugani may want to leave in search of first-team football.
The Times claimed in the summer that Arsenal had a bid of a two-year loan rejected, while Wolves made an offer worth £30million. It remains to be seen how much Juve would want for Rugani, while AC Milan are also interested.
TBR’s view – Emirates the best for Rugani, above United and Liverpool
Of the three sides, Rugani would be best advised to move to north London – if he is desperate to play week in, week out. At Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has four excellent centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
A move to Manchester United would probably see Rugani start, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking for a partner to Harry Maguire. But Eric Bailly is likely to return alongside Maguire from injury, while he has faith in youth in Axel Tuanzebe.
Arsenal need a commanding centre-back to take their situation by the scruff of the beck and put a stop to it. Rugani would be Arsenal’s best centre-back – but he would not be at Liverpool or United.
