Report: Liverpool among Premier League clubs looking at £70m-rated star

The Star claim Liverpool are trailing Manchester City in the race to sign Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, with Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen.

Nunez, 22, has been sensational for Benfica since joining the Portuguese side in the summer of 2020. He was good last season, but better this term.

The Uruguay international scored 14 and created 12 more last season, but he already has six goals in eight games this time around.

His form is catching the eye. The Star say Manchester City are leading the charge to sign Nunez – but Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Bayern are keen.

The report states that Nunez has a release clause in his deal worth a huge £125million, but that City reckon they can get the striker for £70million.

Liverpool eye Nunez: Do the Reds really need Benfica star?

Nunez is sensational. He is a top, top striker. The South American is shining in the red of Benfica, both domestically and in Europe for his club.

At 22, he has a huge potential and £70million is probably a fair price. But do Liverpool need a striker – one that would be require a club-record fee?

Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota play in the false nine role at the moment, while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are renowned for getting beyond.

Liverpool need cover – it remains impossible to replace them. But would they spent £70million on a replacement? Not a chance.

City need a striker, United need a striker, Bayern need a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. So, Liverpool do not need him, but he is a top talent.
