Report: Liverpool add midfielder to shortlist as Wijnaldum replacement
The Express have claimed that Liverpool have added Rennes ace Eduardo Camavinga to their summer shortlist as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, with the Dutchman looking more and more likely to leave the Merseyside club.
Wijnaldum is out of contract in the summer and although he remains a crucial part of the Liverpool side, he looks set to leave the club in the upcoming window. Barcelona, Inter Milan and plenty of other clubs are interested.
Liverpool need a replacement and have been linked with numerous players in recent months. The Express have now suggested three-time France international Camavinga could be targeted by the Reds in the next few months.
The report claims Liverpool are in pole position ahead of Real Madrid as they can offer him a starting spot in their midfield, and has rejected a new Rennes deal. His agent, Jonathan Barnett, told Goal he will cost £43.5million.
TBR’s view – Camavinga excellent value for money
Given his age, the fact he has already played 77 times for Rennes at senior level and is now a fully-fledged France international – Camavinga is one of Europe’s biggest teenage talents. £43.5million, then, is an absolute bargain.
Liverpool will lose Wijnaldum for nothing and ultimately, they will have to spend to replace him. But if they are looking to get a long-term midfield solution to the club, they won’t be able to do better than Camavinga at that price.
