Report: Levy wants £27m before selling 'very good' Spurs player, interest is building
Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has been linked with a January departure from Spurs.
Tottenham are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the Dutchman this month.
And Ajax are apparently looking to snap up the Spurs attacker.
According to the Evening Standard, the Dutch giants failed with an initial £15million bid for Bergwijn.
The outlet claims Ajax are expected to return with a follow-up offer.
Tottenham are reportedly hoping to recoup as much of their initial £27million outlay as possible.
The 24-year-old was Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Tottenham in January 2020.
Bergwijn hit the ground running at Spurs, scoring in his first three home league games.
This included superb goals against both Manchester clubs.
Since then, however, Bergwijn has struggled for confidence and fitness.
He scored just once in 35 appearances last season, and has one goal from 13 outings this term.
In December’s 2-1 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, Bergwijn also assisted Lucas Moura’s winner.
His display earned praise from Antonio Conte, who raised the possibility of the Dutchman deputising for Harry Kane when he needs a rest.
Bergwijn is currently calf injury but Conte said before Sunday’s 3-1 win over Morecambe that he expected to welcome back the Dutch international “very soon”.
“He’s a very, very good player”
In December 2020, Bergwijn came under fire for missing some good opportunities to score against Liverpool.
Toby Alderweireld stuck up for his then teammate, telling beIN Sports: “Steven is a very good player.
“He’s strong, quick, left [foot], right [foot]. And yeah, of course, it’s in the details.
“If the ball goes inside of the post, in the goal, inside. It’s details. It’s like so close from it. I have all faith in him.
“He’s very mentally strong, so he will perform the same way he is doing because, he’s a very, very good player.”
