Daniel Levy often says in private that Antonio Conte is the best coach he has worked with as he looks to agree a new contract with the Tottenham Hotspur boss, according to a report from The Athletic.

Conte is taking Spurs back into the conversation for various honours. Tottenham are still very much a work in progress. However, the Italian certainly appears to be taking them in the right direction.

The Athletic reports that there is optimism that a new long-term deal will be agreed in time. Tottenham already have the option to extend his terms by 12 months. But talks over a new contract are underway.

And the report outlines just how important it is to Levy that Spurs do tie Conte down.

According to The Athletic, Levy often says behind the scenes that Conte is the best coach he has ever worked with.

That is not entirely surprising to hear. But Tottenham have had some very impressive names in the dug-out during Levy’s time at the club. So it is still quite an impressive statement.

New contract would be another step in right direction for Spurs

There is still a little uncertainty surrounding how far Conte can take Spurs. Some of the football has been underwhelming. And it did appear that they were heading for their third league defeat in a row at the weekend, with Bournemouth taking a surprise 2-0 lead.

However, Tottenham fans will know just how integral Conte is. If he believes that they can reach the summit, there is a genuine possibility that they may do.

Should he leave, a lot of players will ask questions about their own future.

But it seems that all parties are keen to ensure that Conte roams the Tottenham touchline for some time to come.
