According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is still reluctant to sell Dele Alli before the transfer window shuts this month.

The Englishman, 25, was once one of Spurs’ best players. Some even valued him in excess of £100 million at one point, but the last few years have been terrible for him for reasons only he knows.

Alli looks nothing like the player he once was and as a result, there have been rumours that Antonio Conte, Fabio Paratici and Levy himself are ready to let him leave on a permanent deal.

However, Levy may not be as convinced as the other two about selling him.

Levy is worried Dele Alli will become a star if Tottenham sell him

Alli has been linked with a couple of clubs over the last few days and he could well complete a move soon. However, if it’s up to Levy, it won’t be a permanent one.

The report claims that Levy is haunted by the prospect of selling Alli now, only to see him go elsewhere and become a real star. That would really hurt the Spurs chief, who still believes that the Englishman has the talent in him to succeed at Tottenham.

As a result, Levy is more likely to sanction a loan move for Alli until the end of the season and then make a definitive decision on his future at the club.

Levy’s worries are certainly understandable.

Alli has already shown that he has the quality and talent to become one of the best players in the Premier League. He could be a real asset to a team if he’s back to his best, and if he goes on to become a real star at a different club, Spurs will be left looking silly.

A loan move certainly makes more sense now for Tottenham, for more than just one reason. If he plays well out on loan, Conte could consider reintegrating him into his squad. If that’s not an option, his stock will go up and Spurs could make more money off his sale in the summer than they would now.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the next six days.
