Rangers’s hopes of keeping young defender Leon King have suffered a major setback, with the Sunday Mail reporting that he has rejected a contract offer at Ibrox and has a host of Premier League admirers.

The Sunday Mail reports that Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are all keen on the 15-year-old. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig are also interested in giving King the chance to become the next British youngster to leave for Germany.

The centre-back has rejected a professional contract with the Gers, according to the Sunday Mail. And that leaves the door open for King to leave Ibrox in a similar fashion to Billy Gilmour, who joined Chelsea for £500,000.

It would clearly be a big blow for Rangers to lose King. The list of admirers tracking his progress is extremely telling.

All four clubs have nurtured some incredibly impressive young players through their academies in recent years. And King would be forgiven for wanting to weigh up his options.

TBR View – Should King stay at Rangers?

Despite the interest, you could understand if he decided to stay at Rangers. He is likely to still be some way off being ready for senior football. But the path to the first-team looks to be clearest with the Gers.

Of course, he may back himself to make the grade wherever he goes. And he may be intrigued to receive coaching at another club.

But Rangers appear to be putting King on the right path. And his admirers are surely unlikely to disappear if he decides to sign professional terms with the Gers.
