Report: Leicester want to partner Arsenal and Spurs target Demiral with Turkey team-mate Soyuncu

Leicester City are the latest club to join the hunt for Merih Demiral, according to talkSPORT.

Brendan Rodgers wants to sign a new centre-back after losing Harry Maguire in the summer. Maguire was sold for a world-record fee for a defender so Leicester have been armed with some cash to find a replacement.

This season, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu have been excellent at the back for Leicester. This has helped Rodgers’ men climb to second in the Premier League table. But he wants another option to provide cover and competition for starts.

Demiral, who currently plays for Juventus, could partner Turkey team-mate Soyuncu for Leicester. The 21-year-old has only played three times this season so he could be on the move again.

Last summer, Demiral joined Juventus from Sassuolo. But his lack of playing time could lead to an exit. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been among the interested clubs, according to Turkish Football.

However, Leicester are hoping to win the race. The Foxes are expected to move for the Turkish starlet when the January window opens.

TBR’s view

Demiral will probably be tempted by the move to Leicester. This is a club on the way up with a good manager and a ball-playing philosophy. This all suits his style of play.

Moreover, Leicester could have a trump card up their sleeve. The opportunity to work with Soyuncu at club level would probably tempt Demiral when he thinks of his options.
