Leicester City have moved forward with their bid to sign St Etienne defender, Wesley Fofana, with the Foxes now said to be in talks with the Frenchman.
According to Sky Sports, the Foxes are now firmly engulfed in discussions with the Ligue 1 outfit to sign the teenager.
Former Foxes boss, Claude Puel, is the man in charge of Fofana at St Etienne at the moment and is said to be desperate to keep hold of the youngster. However, he left him out of the weekend’s squad to face Nantes, pouring fuel on the fire when it comes to Fofana moving on.
The 19-year-old has previously admitted that he would be ‘crazy’ to turn down a move to a club like Leicester, which will have given Brendan Rodgers all the encouragement he needs.
Fofana emerged as a shining light last season for St Etienne and the Foxes are desperate for a new defender. With Wes Morgan now well into his 30s, the club are left with just Soyuncu, Evans, and Benkovic as central defensive options, while Wilfried Ndidi has also filled in.
The report claims a loan deal with a view to buy is looking the most likely option, while the club have still apparently not given up hope of signing Burnley star, James Tarkowski.
Fofana a fine talent but a risk to bring straight into the action – TBR View
The signing of Fofana would represent excellent business for the Foxes but whether he can come straight into the starting XI and make a big impact is another question entirely.
Yes, he’s a talent and looks to have all the tools but the Premier League is a different level to Ligue 1.
A loan with a view to buy sounds sensible. It gives Rodgers a good chance to look at Fofana and if he can land Tarkowski as well, gives him chance to blood the young Frenchman over time.
